Hide-n-Seek
“THERE,” he said, pushing me toward the waterfall. “Hide behind there.”
“What?” I asked. “Are you crazy? You want me to drown?”
He pushed me again, palm against the small of my back, firmer this time. “You need to trust me. Follow the ledge. It’ll take you to a small cave behind the falls. Be careful. It’ll be wet, but hopefully that keeps them off your scent. Now hurry.”
Somewhere behind us, the howling of hunting dogs echoed through the forest, punctuating his urgency.
“Can’t you lead the way?” I asked.
“Not how this plan works,” he said.
Then he turned and scrambled up the rocks, heading straight toward the howling.
